Gli affetti, i sapori e le usanze di casa continuano infatti a tormentare le protagoniste dei racconti di Adichie, che siano arrivate negli Stati Uniti quasi per caso, sposando un uomo ricco che poi le ha parcheggiate nell'agio di una terra straniera con figli e domestica, oppure dopo aver atteso per anni il ricongiungimento con il compagno.
