È la storia romanzata di dittatori africani dalla decolonizzazione ai giorni nostri, di personaggi incredibili, crudeli e stravaganti. Inizialmente c'è la formazione militare dell'esercito coloniale francese, con guerre in Indocina e Algeria e l'apprendimento delle moderne tecniche per la reppressione e l'annientamento delle rivolte popolari. Successivamente i protagonisti diventano autori di colpi di stato militari e delle conseguenti sanguinarie dittature. Installatasi al potere, governano in modo crudele, consultando sempre gli stregoni personali e praticando riti magici per distruggere gli avversari. Il cinico gioco delle potenze occidentali e le tradizioni tribali.
