Nei sette libri delle "Elleniche" Senofonte rievoca le guerre fratricide che i Greci combatterono incessantemente dal 411, l'ultimo anno narrato da Tucidide, alla battaglia di Mantinea del 362 a.C. Ora semplice spettatore, ora attore coinvolto negli avvenimenti in prima persona, Senofonte racconta la fine della guerra del Peloponneso, l'egemonia spartana e il breve momento di gloria di Tebe. Ma al centro del suo interesse rimangono sempre gli uomini, i grandi personaggi che creano la storia di cui sono riportati gesta e discorsi e che vengono additati come modello ed esempio di condotta civile e politica. Giovanna Daverio Rocchi analizza nell'introduzione la struttura delle "Elleniche", il complesso problema del rapporto con l'opera di Tucidide e i presupposti ideologici di Senofonte.

This version gives an in depth discription of the events, the reasons that trigered the whole affair and the events on the perspactive of those who lived them.
