Sinossi
In questa sintesi del suo pensiero, John Dewey, il più importante filosofo dell'educazione del Novecento, contrappone la sua posizione a quella dei conservatori, che criticavano le "scuole nuove" ispirate dal suo credo e auspicavano il ritorno alla tradizione e al principio di autorità come fondamento pedagogico. Secondo Dewey, l'esperienza è il banco di prova di ogni teoria pedagogica e, allo stesso tempo, è ciò che permette di educare ogni uomo alla responsabilità, alla partecipazione, alla soluzione di "problemi di tutti" in una società fondata sull'integrazione e non sull'esclusione. Già nella forma polemica, oltre che nel contenuto, "Esperienza e educazione", che brilla per chiarezza, sintesi e profondità, è di grande attualità e riesce ancora oggi, nella confusione del dibattito sulla scuola, a mettere a nudo le differenze fondamentali tra chi vuole un'educazione autoritaria e chi immagina e vuole mettere in pratica una comunità educante.
