Sinossi

A Twist in Your Toga As they say in the classics, I’m glad I reviewed "The Symposium" before "Phaedrus". http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... I read PHAEDRUS for a specific purpose. Since the mid-20th century, there has been an ongoing effort to re-interpret Plato. Those pursuing this effort, not surprisingly, see it as the pursuit of a deeper truth. I assume that they are sincere in this belief. Critics of the reinterpretation see many re Leggi tutto
When Phaedrus recites to Socrates a speech by Lysias on the topic of love, the two enter into a dialogue in which Socrates makes a speech of his own on the topic and they expand the conversation to include a discussion of rhetoric and the value of knowing the truth.
