Sinossi
Pubblicato nel 1890, "Il grande dio Pan", che spazia dalle campagne gallesi a una Londra spettrale, narra delle conseguenze di un folle esperimento scientifico. Il dottor Raymond, consacrato da anni alla medicina trascendentale, sottopone la figlia adottiva Mary a un delicato intervento al cervello che, a suo dire, la metterà in contatto con il mondo governato dalle divinità primordiali che popolavano la Terra prima dell'avvento dell'uomo, tra le quali il terrificante dio Pan, incarnazione delle forze primigenie della natura e del cosmo. Non per nulla, l'apertura di questo "terzo occhio" della mente era definita dagli antichi "vedere il dio Pan". L'esperimento avrà esiti catastrofici.
