Sinossi

3.5 stars. Really nice illustrations in lovely colours, the story was okay. Maurice is a beast but doesn't behave like one. His parents send him to beast school to become more like he should be, eventually it's recognised that his qualities are desirable. Always nice to see a character who is differ Leggi tutto
Really darling and fun, albeit the theme's been done before and at times it did feel a little too forced. But, I loved Maurice! And I appreciate seeing a vegetarian character in a picture book.
With monsterly sweetness and abominable fun, this book embraces different in all of its furry and ungrowling ways. Maurice is a vegetarian, kind and polite—all those things a monster shouldn't be. Not sure how to help him, his parents send him off to monster academy in hopes he'll learn true brutish Leggi tutto
What initially drew me into this book were the illustrations and the typography on the cover. They're so beautiful and stylized that I just knew I had to read this, and I'm glad I did! Maurice the Unbeastly questions not only stereotypes, but what it means you're born into a culture where you don't Leggi tutto
Alex and Violet came home with this gem a few weeks ago from The Golden Hare Bookshop’s weekly storytime. The story is one you’ve heard before(a beast not behaving beastly enough), but it’s the beautiful illustrations, fantastic vocabulary (gargantuan!) and creative details (alfalfa fritters!) that Leggi tutto
this book is a winner.
This children's picture book was delightfully written and beautifully illustrated. The warm colour palette includes one of my favourite colours 'slime green' and the illustration style is on point.

Picture Book October 2017 This is a picture book about Maurice - a beast! I think he could be loosely interpreted as an animal, as animals are, technically, beasts. Maurice could be an undiscovered species, especially in a child's mind where there is a fine line of what's real and imaginary. Plus, I r Leggi tutto
This is a fun picture book that has a terrific message about being yourself. Maurice is not like any of the other beasts. He's friendly, polite, and neat. His parents are worried that he's not messy, mean, or scary and so they send him off to the Abominable Academy for Brutish Beasts. He has a tough Leggi tutto
