Sinossi
Luglio 1916. Nelle foreste dell'Ontario settentrionale, in Canada, le fiamme si levarono alte nel cielo, in quello che sarà conosciuto come il Grande Fuoco di Matheson e che ingoierà boschi, paesi e vite umane di quelle regioni. Decenni più tardi, una fotografa si mette sulle tracce di un certo Boychuck, sopravvissuto al rogo e circondato da un alone di mito e di mistero. Non riuscirà a incontrarlo - è appena morto - ma il suo viaggio non sarà vano: conoscerà altri due reduci di quella tragedia, Tom e Charlie, vecchi eremiti che da lungo tempo hanno scelto di vivere nella foresta, e poco dopo incontrerà anche l'eterea Marie-Desneige, che ha ottantadue anni e tutte le proprie facoltà intatte, nonostante abbia trascorso in manicomio gran parte della sua esistenza. E ancora Bruno e Steve, affascinati dal meraviglioso isolamento nel quale vive quella strana comunità, che neppure il pensiero della morte riesce a turbare.

I read this 155-page novel as slowly as I could and still it went too fast. So now I will take a pause, and then read it again fairly soon. There isn't much to say after reading this kind of beauty.
