Sinossi
La "Voluspá" è stata redatta intorno all'anno 1000. È un testo apocalittico, in cui sono narrati a Odino, per bocca di una profetessa, l'origine del cosmo e la sua fine, la creazione dell'uomo, le vicende dei giganti e degli esseri divini, la descrizione di luoghi inospitali e terrificanti ai margini del mondo conosciuto, il sorgere di un nuovo mondo dopo l'incendio finale. L'autore, anonimo ma certamente poeta dotto e raffinato, delinea gli episodi fondamentali della storia cosmica con pochi e suggestivi tratti, lasciando all'uditore il compito di ricostruire l'ordito della narrazione. Il testo norreno è accompagnato dalla traduzione e da un commento approfondito che ha il compito di offrire al lettore le coordinate culturali in cui inserire un componimento poetico di fascino straordinario ma anche di notevole difficoltà. Se c'è un mito che ha condizionato in vari modi e misure il Novecento è certamente quello del Crepuscolo degli Dei: la Voluspá ne costituisce il racconto originario e fondamentale.
