Nei primi due decenni del Ventunesimo secolo, il movimento per il clima ha attraversato diverse fasi, cicli ascendenti e discendenti; e nel frattempo il suo avversario, il «capitalismo fossile», è andato dritto per la propria strada: i terrificanti dati sulle emissioni in costante crescita lo dimostrano. Il movimento ha da tempo optato per un pacifismo radicale. La nonviolenza è stata adottata come imprescindibile scelta tattica, più ancora che come imperativo morale. Ed è su questo che si concentra l’attenzione di Andreas Malm nel libro che avete fra le mani. Tutto un apparato ideologico fondato su letture parziali e deformate della storia delle lotte del passato è analizzato e messo in discussione: sempre, nelle battaglie vinte, accanto al movimento di massa nonviolento c’è stato chi ha avuto l’essenziale capacità di alzare il livello dello scontro, se necessario.
La sfida al cambiamento climatico non è inferiore a nessuna. In verità, mai i rischi per l’umanità intera sono stati tanto gravi. Liberarsi del mito della superiorità tattica della nonviolenza è oggi fondamentale; escludere il sabotaggio, l’attacco alla proprietà privata, è un drammatico errore strategico.
Come far saltare un oleodotto ha naturalmente scatenato discussioni, alla sua uscita in inglese (e l’edizione italiana è arricchita da un’appendice in cui l’autore risponde alle critiche). Ma di certo Malm sa di cosa parla, quando descrive la catastrofe incombente, e questo libro può essere una decisiva scintilla.

A lot of really great information and insightful arguments for the role of sabotage, but the organization of this book was horrendous. There was a terrific book potential with the research and writing but what this is simply a decently good book. Worth your time if you enjoy these broad topics, but
see this book had a decent point to make but some parts were SO tone deaf. why did he use the word “dyke” ??? and give his takes on racial issues ?? this would’ve been a decent recommendation to give if not for his continuous comments that make it clear this book was written by a white man. comparin Leggi tutto
