E lui, il più grande guerriero di Mercia, si troverà ancora coinvolto suo malgrado in una lotta tra famiglia e lealtà, tra ambizione e necessità politiche. La fragile pace sta per terminare: lo scontro sembra ormai inevitabile.
Attraverso continui capovolgimenti di fronte, Cornwell ci fa vivere in prima persona avventure distanti nel tempo come se accadessero sotto i nostri occhi, in un emozionante vortice di passioni, pericoli e imprevedibili agguati del destino.
