Tom, padre single di Hannah, è il direttore del piccolo teatro di una cittadina inglese dove, tutti gli anni nello stesso giorno, viene messo in scena uno spettacolo dedicato proprio ad Hannah: è un momento attesissimo che, anno dopo anno, rende la sua infanzia indimenticabile.
