Baltimora, 1966. Maddie, sola contro tutti, comincia a indagare.
Raccontato da una pluralità di punti vista, e con impressionante ritmo narrativo, La donna del lago non è soltanto il resoconto di un’indagine dai toni noir, ma è la storia del rapporto tra due donne che in realtà non si sono mai conosciute, nate in due contesti diversissimi, ma entrambe impegnate nello sforzo di contrastare il destino loro assegnato.
Laura Lippman ci regala un romanzo pieno di suspense incentrato sulla redazione di un giornale in una città e in anni in cui razzismo, classismo e sessismo imbevevano l’opinione pubblica. Un bellissimo thriller letterario che, al di fuori delle costrizioni del genere, cattura alla perfezione lo spirito del tempo componendo, contemporaneamente, il ritratto di una ambizione femminile che non ha bisogno di altre giustificazioni.
