Alessandro Fo si è dedicato alla traduzione e alla cura dei carmi di Catullo. La caratteristica di Fo è quella di saper restituire forza poetica alla traduzione dei versi latini anche attraverso una metrica «barbara» che evochi per analogia l'andamento ritmico col quale siamo abituati a leggere l'originale. Con Catullo, poeta polimetrico per eccellenza, Fo deve reinventarsi un metro, almeno per la prima parte del liber, quasi poesia per poesia. Ma Catullo, soprattutto nella sezione dei carmina docta, è poeta difficile, dai riferimenti ambigui ed eruditi. Ecco perché sono indispensabili i saggi coi quali Fo introduce il volume e ogni singolo carme, dedicando poi specificamente agli studiosi l'imponente apparato di note che completa l'edizione.

Words and expressions the translator should have thought twice about using: "Treadmill," "French poodle," "syphilitic." Catullus is the OG badass Roman poet.
