Man mano che i legami si intrecciano e le relazioni si saldano, dal vivo o online, i quattro protagonisti di questa storia discutono insieme di sesso e amicizia, di arte e letteratura, di politica e genere, e ovviamente di loro stessi. Ma il centro di tutto è lei, Frances: il suo acume e la sua ingenuità, il suo desiderio, le sue debolezze, il suo amore ne fanno un personaggio femminile autentico, il ritratto struggente, malinconico, profondissimo di una generazione e il simbolo di questi tempi inquieti.
