Non è una notte come tutte le altre. Domani, finalmente Adunni andrà a scuola. Tia ha lottato a lungo per dare a quella ragazzina brillante e coraggiosa la possibilità di lasciarsi alle spalle la miseria di Ikati, il villaggio nigeriano in cui è nata e cresciuta, per inseguire il suo sogno più grande: studiare, per costruirsi un futuro diverso e, un giorno, insegnarlo anche alle altre bambine che, come lei, sarebbero altrimenti relegate al ruolo di moglie e madre, senza prospettive né istruzione. Eppure, adesso che la guarda dormire, tutto ciò cui Tia riesce a pensare sono le parole che ha origliato per caso pochi giorni fa, mentre faceva visita alla madre gravemente malata. Perché, da quelle parole, è chiaro che la madre le ha mentito per vent’anni, nascondendo un segreto che potrebbe cambiare per sempre la sua vita.
Tia vorrebbe cercare risposte, ma non c’è tempo: qualcuno sta bussando alla porta di casa sua, con l’intenzione di riportare Adunni a Ikati e dal marito da cui è fuggita. Dovrà quindi scegliere che cosa sia più importante: se fare luce sul proprio passato o aiutare Adunni, affinché la sua voce non venga messa a tacere, ma diventi un faro di speranza per tutte le ragazze del suo villaggio.
Una storia commovente di amicizia e solidarietà femminile. Due protagoniste dal coraggio esemplare. Un viaggio sull’importanza di trovare la propria voce e restituirla a chi non ce l’ha o ancora non sa di averla.

I absolutely loved The Girl With The Louding Voice. I can not believe that this book was written by the same author. I wish we could have ended with book 1 and left it at that.
