Heschel approaches the Sabbath from the perspective of mystical, Rabbinic Judaism. Rabbi Lawrence Kushner calls Heschel's book "the primary text for all subsequent American Jewish spirituality." Amazing book, highly recommended. I gained a much greater appreciation for the Shabbat after this book. I can definitely see myself re-reading this book several times in the future as I gain a greater understanding, love and respect for Judaism.
