Sinossi

This book changed my life! I used to be important but now I’m a bunch of cells motivated by an illusion of significance. Never mind. Keep calm and carry on while enjoying some ironic observations and excellent illustrations on display here.
"Back in my day..." The first sentence to one longy, grumbly, story by our parents, grandparents, or neighbors, who in return are either met with eye rolling, head shaking annoyance, or the proof of just how fast one can hightail it out of the room desperate to do anything but listen to the rest of
Being a fan of the videos from The School of Life channel, and having read a couple of their books, I was interested to check this one out. This book perhaps does not tread too much new ground compared to their previous output, covering very human behaviours such as comparing ourselves to others, be Leggi tutto

4.5 stars An elegantly woven overview of many facets of the human mind floundering in the modern world. A world our bodies and minds haven’t yet evolved for. Well worth reading, alongside ‘An Emotional Education’. This covers more topics at a briefer level
If you are looking for a thought-provoking book, this is it. What does your temper owe to the unfolding of historical events? When will you understand the privilege of having parents whose blindspots are the only reproachable source of bad parenting? How does the architecture of your beliefs, to you Leggi tutto
A simple, well digested explanation to how we've come to where we are and what to do with what we have as humanity. It set in my being a kind of peace while reminding me how minuscule my existance is inside of this huge universe of possibilities and happenings. Life happens to simply experience it,
I woke up at 4 am this morning and finished this book. There were some really salient points that I’d never thought of. Loved the architecture section and loneliness.
“We should never have to tell anyone that we are ‘doing well’. The automatic assumption should be that of course we are in some kind of crisis: financial, romantic, existential - because that is what humans are like.” Bless the lady from work who introduced me to Alain de Botton.
