I love anything that Ms Rubins writes, at least I love the three books I’ve read of hers: this one, The Elected Member and the surprisingly memorable Mother Russia which is depressingly accurate without being totally maudlin (reminds me of Catch 22 in that way). A 4.5 Beautifully written tale of longing, loneliness and possession - within a very eccentric backdrop. I loved the unusual rhythms in the speech reflecting the different origins of the refugees in the novel but wanted an expansion of some of the weird and wonderful characters to make it a 5. Some amacing characters in this book. Although I didn't enjoy this book as much as some of her other books it was still a very entertaining read and as always beautifully written with such an understanding of human frailties.
Heerlijk boek voor liefhebbers van piano. Geestig en ontroerend.
