Cosa significa essere una buona amica? Elizabeth è di nuovo costretta a chiedersi: cosa significa, realmente, amicizia? Come può essere una buona amica? Comincia così un viaggio alla ricerca di storie e significati, realtà e falsi miti, testimonianze e parole capaci di spiegare quel legame che chiamiamo «amicizia». Il lessico che la definisce, infatti, tutto teso a raccontare la relazione «regina» del nostro tempo, quella amorosa, è totalmente inadatto a esprimere il nucleo pulsante di energia, affetto, attenzioni, pensieri e cura che unisce fra loro due amiche o amici. Ed è soltanto alla fine di una ricognizione tra aule universitarie e idromassaggi di Las Vegas, hall di grandi alberghi e freddi corridoi d'ospedale, persone di ogni età e cultura, che Elizabeth confesserà a sé stessa una verità ora lampante: amicizia non è stare al centro di una rete affollata di relazioni, ma scegliere coloro che ascoltano, guariscono, aiutano. Amicizia non è avere tutte le risposte, ma qualcuno a cui porre le domande.

Devoured this within a day. Literally obsessed. I want everyone I know to read this, and also want to write a love letter to all of my friends, past and present. A must read !!!
I'm careful not to criticise books for not being what I wanted them to be. It states very clearly on the cover that it is the Confessions Of A Friendship Addict and this is very much a confessional. This book absolutely hit the spot for me, and it’s been a long time since a book has got me this good. This examination on friendship; as a phenomenon, as a life force, as a thing that shapes our lives and our selves, truly captured my attention and my imagination. I so wanted to love this but it just felt like the author was trying to wrangle a cat into a bag. There are some neat observations- I particularly liked the references to the solar system - but these are buried beneath a marshmallow of slightly self-indulgent waffle. A book about Elizabeth’s infertility (trigger warning!!!) thinly veiled as a book about friendship. The friendship parts were good but ultimately this book is a scam. I don’t care about your womb, sorry!!!
