Gli idioti in questione, armati delle loro manie, ossessioni e fissazioni, oppongono una strenua resistenza ai meccanismi di quella moderna società dei consumi che sembra destinata ad avere la meglio su di loro. Ci sono padri di famiglia che sognano di partire a bordo di un’utilitaria trasformata in macchina volante, salvo poi schiantarsi al primo cavalcavia; martiri del mal di piedi e piromani sfortunati col fuoco; contadini che si credono dottori, e poi nani e microcefali…
Con la sua ironia surreale Ermanno Cavazzoni dipinge una galleria di trentuno ritratti all’insegna di un unico dogma: l’idiozia accompagnerà il genere umano fino alla morte. Anzi, c’è addirittura chi dice che, forse su un altro pianeta, l’umanità potrebbe giungere, in un lento progresso, a quello stato di assoluta e totale idiozia in cui «nessuno ricorda più niente, neanche le cose più elementari, come ad esempio sentirsi qualcuno diverso da un sasso o da un meteorite. Questo sarebbe lo stato beato».
