La genesi di quest’opera è tutt’altro che lineare. Un nucleo originario di racconti apparve anonimo su un periodico umoristico berlinese nel 1781: un’abbreviazione nel titolo fece supporre che l’autore fosse il barone Hieronymus Karl Friedrich von Münchhausen (1720-1797), ma sembra più probabile che questo curioso personaggio – di «originalissimo umore» – sia stato solo l’ispiratore delle storie redatte poi dal pubblicista Rudolf Erich Raspe (1737-1794), che in un’edizione rielaborata in inglese, pubblicata a Oxford nel 1785, esplicitò il nome del barone come narratore di quelle avventure. Il testo inglese fu tradotto in tedesco e ancora rielaborato con stile personalissimo da Bürger, e in questa veste meritò la fama di cui ancora oggi ampiamente gode.

After few slower books, it was nice to read something quick and just lose myself in the story. This book was perfect for that. I really enjoyed reading it. I think the reason why I enjoyed reading it this much, was because of the humor. The humor in this book was right up my alley. Great short b
