Leah ha venticinque anni e frequenta un master in scrittura creativa presso l’università del Wisconsin. Un giorno, in coda al supermercato, conosce Charlie, di qualche anno più grande, i cui modi diretti e gentili la conquistano subito. Quando Charlie la invita per la prima volta a casa sua, Leah ha i primi dubbi, non capisce perché abiti ancora con i genitori, dorma nel seminterrato, non tenga in ordine la sua stanza.
