A quanto affermano le statistiche, al 31 dicembre un uomo di ottantacinque anni ha un 80 per cento di probabilità di arrivare alla stessa data dell’anno successivo. Sfidando la sorte, Hendrik, che ha esattamente quell’età, decide di riprendere a scrivere il diario interrotto un anno prima, in seguito a una perdita che lo ha toccato da vicino. Un po’ perché quell’ora e mezzo di scrittura al giorno, in cui dissotterra la sua penna dissacrante, gli manca non poco, un po’ perché per la sua indole è inconcepibile abbandonarsi alla mancanza assoluta di obblighi che contraddistingue la quotidianità di una casa di riposo, dove, se vuoi, «puoi farti imboccare la vita come un budino in cui non è rimasto neanche un grumo». Per Hendrik e il gruppo di amici del club Vemamimo, i Vecchi-ma-mica-morti, una prospettiva del genere è improponibile. Fedele allo spirito con cui è stato fondato, il club non si risparmia pur di rendere le giornate (e le nottate) in casa di cura piacevoli nonostante tutto, con festini di mezzanotte, fuochi d’artificio illegali, esplorazioni culinarie in ristoranti più o meno esotici e non solo…
Se Hendrik deve pur sempre fare i conti con lo scorrere del tempo, non soltanto per quanto lo riguarda ma anche, e forse soprattutto, per chi gli è più vicino, per sua fortuna non perde le doti che lo contraddistinguono, preziose a qualsiasi età. Perché ironia, autoironia e disincanto a volte sono davvero un farmaco salvavita.

Kolejny tom okazał się znacznie bardziej melancholijny niż jego poprzednik - jak najbardziej na plus! Do tego porządna dawka iście groenowskiego humoru, parę prztyczków w biurokracyjny nochal i... Nad czym się tu rozwodzić, jestem kontent.
