Gli orfanotrofi sono posti orribili. Ma Earwig adora il St. Morwald perché, da quando è stata lasciata ancora in fasce all’ingresso dell’stituto, tutti fanno esattamente quello che vuole. Le cose cambiano il giorno in cui una coppia un po’ inquietante (che si sforza di apparire normale) decide di adottare proprio lei. Earwig viene così catapultata nella misteriosa abitazione di Bella Yaga e Mandragora, tra stanze segrete, pozioni e libri di magia, e non ci metterà molto a scoprire che la sua nuova ‘mamma’ è una strega, con tutte le conseguenze che ne derivano! Ma grazie alla sua intelligenza e al prezioso aiuto di Thomas, un gatto parlante, Earwig troverà il modo di farsi rispettare. Una piccola storia di grande coraggio, che insegna a non abbattersi mai, nemmeno quando tutto sembra prendere la piega sbagliata.

An excellent short novel for any fluent Y2 reader, as a class read for Y2 or any confident reader upwards to Y4. What a huge disappointment! In the first place, it was a little too Roald Dahl wannabe for me, both text and illustrations. Nothing wrong with Dahl, but we already have him, we don't need a copy.
