Londra, 1878. Al mitico Lyceum Theatre si incrociano le vite di tre persone straordinarie. Si tratta di Henry Irving, il più grande attore shakespeariano della sua epoca, di Ellen Terry, l’attrice più ammirata e desiderata della sua generazione, e di Bram Stoker, il direttore del teatro. Arrivato da poco da Dublino, Stoker sembra il più anonimo dei tre, anche se in realtà il suo cuore è agitato da passioni e tormenti: un matrimonio appena contratto ma già sul punto di naufragare, il sacro fuoco della scrittura, a cui può dedicare solo poche ore insonni trascorse nella soffitta del Lyceum, e l’attrazione per ciò che avviene nell’oscurità delle notti londinesi. Intorno ai tre pulsa infatti di vita Londra, con la sua varia umanità e le infinite possibilità che offre. I do like books set around the theatre. This was a very evocative and atmospheric read and I really enjoyed the clever elements that lead us through the journey of Bram’s writing Dracula. An amazing read. The language and dialogue are simply superb here. It's harsh, tender and humorous all in one must read book. This tracks Bram Stoker and his life around the time of his writing of Dracula. This is a triumph from Joseph O'Connor, one of Ireland's true masters.
