Ambientato il 16 giugno 1904 a Dublino, è il racconto della giornata di un uomo qualunque, il piazzista pubblicitario Leopold Bloom, e delle persone che intorno a lui si muovono: primi fra tutti sua moglie, l'incontenibile Molly Bloom, e il giovane insegnante Stephen Dedalus, cupo alter ego letterario di Joyce. Il romanzo è composto da diciotto capitoli in cui l'autore esplora stili e tecniche diverse, dalla parodia al flusso di coscienza, che culminano infine nel celebre monologo di Molly. Pur svolgendosi nel corso di appena ventiquattr'ore, l'Ulisse rifugge le regole del romanzo ottocentesco e scardina la sequenzialità della narrazione; accoglie in sé passato, presente e futuro e racchiude tutto l'universale e l'umano nel labirinto di una Dublino dell'anima, ricostruita attraverso i ricordi del suo esule narratore.

Life is too short to read Ulysses.
I Can't do it, It fell in my toilet and didn't dry well, and I'm accepting it as an act of god. I decided against burning it, and just threw it out. Yes, I am a horrible person.
