L'uomo che sapeva troppo è stato pubblicato da Chesterton nel 1922 ed è costruito attorno a due uomini agli antipodi che si trovano a indagare insieme su crimini e misteri dell'alta società inglese. Da un lato l'entusiasta giornalista Harold March, «abbastanza giovane da conoscere i politici, e non solo provare a dimenticarseli tutti», dall'altro Horne Fisher, «l'uomo che sapeva troppo», cresciuto a contatto con la classe dirigente, parente di mezzo governo della Corona, un uomo disilluso e annoiato, sempre sul punto di addormentarsi perché nulla sembra interessarlo. Lui, infatti, non si stupisce mai: «Sa già troppo». Tra politica, crimini e spionaggio, però, anche Fisher troverà una scintilla di entusiasmo, la leva che lo porterà a scoprire quel poco che ancora non sa.

My friend Emily Raible’s love for this impelled me to reread it! I did not remember it at all and it is the best story!! Horne Fisher does belong up there with Peter Wimsey!
