Catherine Ravenscroft non sa cosa sia il sonno. Da quando in casa sua è comparso quel libro, l'edizione scalcagnata di un romanzo intitolato "Un perfetto sconosciuto", non riesce più a fare sonni tranquilli, né a vivere la vita di ogni giorno, la sua vita di film-maker di successo, con la sua bella famiglia composta da un marito innamorato e un figlio ormai grande.
