Sant'Agostino affronta poi due temi importantissimi: il problema del male (fisico, metafisico e morale) e il problema del tempo in rapporto alla creazione e all'esistenza umana. Lo stile è affascinante e avvincente, di indiscussa levatura letteraria. Dopo la Bibbia pochi libri possono essere considerati come questo una pietra miliare nella formazione dei cristiani di ogni tempo.

I used to hate Augustine of Hippo. I found him too anxious, too focused on the sexual sins he was sure he was committing, and too sure about the fallen nature of human beings. The Confessions changed all that for me. It's like how when you meet someone you can't judge them in the same way any more;
