La storia vera di come John Douglas, agente dell'FBI e pioniere dei cosiddetti serial killer profiler, partecipò alla caccia di uno dei più conosciuti serial killer della storia statunitense. Per 31 anni l'uomo, che si firmava BTK (Bind Tortur Kill - Lega Tortura Uccide) ha terrorizzato la città di Wichita, in Kansas, aggredendo, violentando e strangolando moltissime vittime, deridendo la polizia e vantandosi dei suoi crimini efferati con giornali e televisioni. Dopo i primi omicidi scomparve nel nulla, per riapparire nove anni dopo, lamentandosi della poca attenzione ricevuta e rivendicando altri delitti a lui non attribuiti. Quando finalmente fu catturato, si rivelò essere Dennis Rader, sessantunenne uomo di chiesa, sposato e padre di due figli. John Douglas, rinomato per aver aiutato a risolvere altri casi, fu convocato come consulente per i delitti di BTK nel 1980 e collaborò alle indagini fino al definitivo arresto. Dopo la sentenza, ottenne interviste esclusive non solo da Rader, ma anche dai suoi familiari ed amici.

Unreadably self-congratulatory. It might be an interesting book, but I couldn't get past the "wow, I'm brilliant!" that is all over the start of it. Grow up, fella.
I decided to finally read this because BTK's name has been brought up a lot in the recent Idaho 4 case. I've previously seen documentaries, but this is my first book about him and I think the authors did a solid job. The audiobook version was the way to go, even with the odd Quantico pronunciation? John Douglas is a former FBI profiler - he's written several previous bestsellers, and reminds us frequently in this book about his pioneering work as a profiler and all the other books he's written.
