Kathy, Tommy e Ruth vivono in un collegio, Hailsham, immerso nella campagna inglese. Non hanno genitori, ma non sono neppure orfani, e crescono insieme ai compagni, accuditi da un gruppo di tutori, che si occupano della loro educazione. Fin dalla più tenera età nasce fra i tre bambini una grande amicizia. La loro vita, voluta e programmata da un'autorità superiore nascosta, sarà accompagnata dalla musica dei sentimenti, dall'intimità più calda al distacco più violento. Una delle responsabili del collegio, che i bambini chiamano semplicemente Madame, si comporta in modo strano con i piccoli. Anche gli altri tutori hanno talvolta reazioni eccessive quando i bambini pongono domande apparentemente semplici. Cosa ne sarà di loro in futuro? Che cosa significano le parole "donatore" e "assistente"? E perché i loro disegni e le loro poesie, raccolti da Madame in un luogo misterioso, sono così importanti? Non lasciarmi è prima di tutto una grande storia d'amore. È anche un romanzo politico e visionario, dove viene messa in scena un'utopia al rovescio che non vorremmo mai vedere realizzata. È uno di quei libri che agiscono sul lettore come lenti d'ingrandimento: facendogli percepire in modo intenso la fragilità e la finitezza di qualunque vita.

It's very important, if you're intending to read this book, that you don't read any reviews or listen to any talk about it first. this book was not AT ALL what i expected. from a writing standpoint, this is easily 5 stars. but overall, the story left something to be desired. i also didn’t find this to be as devastating as most people say it is. it’s objectively a sad story, but to me it was more disturbing than anything else. n Leggi tutto
