E così era accaduto, perché lei non si era mai persa d’animo.
Quando la nuova casa è pronta, la guerra è ormai conclusa. I reduci tornano dal fronte e anche Huong finalmente può riabbracciare la madre, Ngoc. Ma è una donna molto diversa da quella che lei ricordava. La guerra le ha rubato le parole e toccherà a Huong darle una voce, per aiutarla a liberarsi del fardello di troppi segreti…
La saga di una famiglia che si dipana lungo tutto il Novecento, in un Paese diviso e segnato da carestie, guerre e rivoluzioni. Tre generazioni di donne forti, che affrontano la vita con coraggio e determinazione. Una storia potente e lirica insieme, che ci ricorda il valore dei legami familiari e gli ostacoli che siamo disposti a superare per rimanere accanto alle persone che amiamo.

As a second generation Vietnamese American living in the United States, I did not get to learn much about my Vietnamese ancestry in the American education system.
