La "Retorica" di Aristotele, pur inserendosi in una tradizione specifica, quella dei manuali per la composizione del discorso persuasivo, che prese avvio in Grecia nel v secolo a.C., vi introduce una serie di importanti variazioni. Anzitutto, la retorica per Aristotele deve acquisire lo statuto di tecnica, dotandosi di un metodo e avvalendosi di strumenti concettuali di tipo logico. Inoltre, il discorso retorico è finalizzato a suscitare le reazioni emotive degli ascoltatori: si giustifica così l'ampiezza assegnata all'analisi delle passioni del cittadino. Infine, nel libro III, Aristotele seleziona le componenti linguistiche adeguate alla retorica, sottolineandone le differenze rispetto alla poesia. Il trattato aristotelico, grazie alla completezza del suo impianto, costituisce ancor oggi un punto di riferimento per lo studio dell'argomentazione persuasiva.

I'm sure it's excellent, necessary, brilliantly designed, etc. But so is a sewer system, and you don't want to spend too much time there either.
I believe the original thinkers such as Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates are worthy of reading. However, much of their early work is quite funny to read today. This is not only a great book about rhetoric, but about human nature and its tendencies. It reminded me of the chanakya niti. I loved it.
