Sandra Newman riscrive 1984 di George Orwell cambiandone la prospettiva: la protagonista è ora Julia, l’amante di Smith. Il risultato è un libro del tutto originale e soprendente, capace di aggiornare l’incubo distopico e di parlarci dei nostri tempi con terribile lucidità; non per nulla è stato salutato oltreoceano come un autentico capolavoro. E la sua autrice, oltre che degna erede di Orwell, si è confermata voce inconfondibile nel panorama letterario mondiale.
