All'improvviso il teatro piombò nell'oscurità più totale, mentre da sotto la piattaforma si levava un terribile boato. Si sentirono molti gridolini di paura, qualche risata e parecchi sospiri emozionati. Annabelle si irrigidì di colpo, avvertendo la carezza di una mano che le percorreva la schiena. La mano di lui, che le scivolava con deliberata lentezza lungo la colonna vertebrale... il suo profumo, fresco ed eccitante nelle narici... e prima che potesse emettere un suono, la sua bocca che si impadronì di quella di lei in un bacio caldo e dolcemente invadente. Annabelle era troppo sbalordita per muoversi, rimase con le mani sospese in aria, il corpo tremante sostenuto dalla lieve pressione che Hunt esercitava sulla sua vita, mentre le posava l'altra mano sulla nuca. Annabelle era stata baciata prima di allora da pochi giovanotti inesperti che le avevano rubato un rapido abbraccio durante una passeggiata in giardino o nell'angolo appartato di un salotto. Ma nessuno di quei rapidi istanti di corteggiamento era stato lontanamente paragonabile a quanto le stava accadendo: un bacio così lento e coinvolgente da farla quasi impazzire.

The first time I read this book (in 2012) I didn't appreciate it. I'd just plowed through a bunch of historical romances and this one blended in with the crowd. OMG I WAS SO WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
