A Kalaw, una cittadina sperduta sulle montagne del Myanmar, in Birmania, vivono Bo Bo e suo zio, U Ba. Bo Bo è un bambino con un dono insolito: può leggere i sentimenti delle persone nei loro occhi. Un dono a volte scomodo, poiché spesso gli occhi della gente raccontano più di quel che lui vorrebbe sapere. Il padre di Bo Bo si reca a fargli visita una volta all'anno. Di sua madre, Julia, il ragazzino conserva pochi stentati ricordi. Che viva a Yangon e non se la passi molto bene è tutto ciò che Bo Bo sa di lei. Ma non sa spiegarsi per quale motivo lui viva a Kalaw con lo zio, e non con i suoi genitori. Se è vero che tutte le storie parlano d'amore, come U Ba ama sostenere, perché in quegli anni lo zio, consumato cantastorie, non gli ha mai raccontato l'unica storia che a Bo Bo interessa davvero ascoltare, ovvero la sua storia? Una sera, Bo Bo trova un plico di fogli accanto alla vecchia macchina da scrivere di U Ba. In quelle pagine si parla della storia d'amore dei suoi genitori e, davanti alla determinazione del ragazzino, U Ba comprende che non può più rimandare il momento della verità. È così che, dalla voce di U Ba, Bo Bo apprende della newyorkese Julia, scesa da un aereo già pronto a decollare per stare con un uomo che conosce appena, Thar Thar. Del loro travolgente amore e della misteriosa malattia che la ha costretta a rinunciare al loro bambino. Sarà per dare una risposta alle domande che U Ba non è riuscito a soddisfare che Bo Bo si metterà in viaggio, sulle tracce dei suoi genitori. Le atmosfere incantate della Birmania fanno da sfondo a una storia intima, delicata, poetica, degna conclusione della trilogia iniziata con "L'arte di ascoltare i battiti del cuore" e proseguita con "Gli accordi del cuore".

Diesen 3. Teil der "Burma - Serie, habe ich nicht ganz so zügig gelesen wie die beiden ersten Bände. Sorry - I understand depression. But I cannot understand how someone can love her partner more than her child. I can never forgive anyone for doing to her son what she did. Total disappointment in reading this book.
I loved the others in this series, which is perhaps why this was so damned disappointing. So much didn’t make sense … and in the end you can’t help but find Julia selfish, unstable, weak … all the things she was not supposed to be. And Thar Thar? This was a donation in my Little Free Library Shed. I was a little hesitant to begin reading, understanding this is the last book in the trilogy. But a friend of mine said I could read it as a stand-alone. So, I did. I am now bringing my review to Goodreads. This truly is a beautiful story. A tribute Leggi tutto
poor ending to a wonderful beginning...overall the series was wonderful, truly some fabulous writing as with others in series, but storyline in this segment of trilogy was lack luster and left you wanting more...

Ik vind hem weer mooi, maar toch wel minder dan deel 1 en 2. Dat neemt niet weg dat het nog steeds een vreselijk mooie schrijfstijl is. Ik was weer in Birma en rook de gerechten. Maar op de een of andere manier kwam het verhaal niet echt binnen! Die gaat sowieso in de herkansing. Ik heb deze boeken
