Sinossi

The greatest masterpiece in Mongolian literature. Despite some mythical features, it is by far the best source for Genghis Khan's life history and foundation of the Mongol Empire. Stories in this book are as amazing as Genghis Khan's life was. Highly recommended to those who are interested in histor Leggi tutto

The translation I'm fondest of: Francis W. Cleaves, who has run afoul of the majority for his attempt at a King James Bible English. He argued that he should be archaic, like his original, and that the King James style was 'singularly consonant' with the matter in hand. Dammit, he was right. Isenbik Leggi tutto
The very fact that something written over 700 years ago is available to me, in English is almost miraculous. Due to the changes in syntax from when this was written to now, this can be a little unwieldy and slow, however the descriptions of tribal life, raiding and governance were well written and v Leggi tutto
This is a thoroughly confusing read for someone who is unfamiliar with older English, though fascinating if you are capable of following it. While I’m not going to be converting, it sheds light on the Shamnism in Mongolia and aids in my understanding of their belief system.
For being a book about one of the biggest empires in history, this was mind-numbingly boring.
