Questa storia inizia durante l'estate del 1949, un anno dopo la guerra che i palestinesi chiamano Nakba, la catastrofe - che ebbe come conseguenza l'esodo e all'espulsione di oltre 700.000 persone - e che gli israeliani celebrano come la Guerra d'indipendenza. Alcuni soldati israeliani attaccano un gruppo di beduini nel deserto del Negev, uccidendo tutti tranne un'adolescente. La ragazza viene catturata, stuprata, uccisa e sepolta nella sabbia. Molti anni dopo, ai giorni nostri, una donna di Ramallah prova a decifrare alcuni dettagli che aleggiano attorno a quell'omicidio. È colpita da quel delitto a tal punto da trasformarlo in un'ossessione, non solo a causa dell'efferatezza del crimine, ma perché è stato commesso esattamente venticinque anni prima il giorno in cui è nata. Adania Shibli sviluppa due narrazioni che si sovrappongono e, in trasparenza, evocano un presente che non può prescindere da ciò che è stato. Con una prosa tagliente e inquietante, "Un dettaglio minore" va al cuore di un'esistenza segnata dall'annullamento e dalla privazione di sé, com'è la vita nella Palestina occupata, rivelandoci quanto sia ancora difficile riunire i frammenti di una narrazione rimasta troppo a lungo nascosta nelle pieghe della storia.
