Un gruppo di giovani alla ricerca della verità... E se fosse lei a trovarli per prima? Alice Lindstedt è una giovane regista di documentari costretta a barcamenarsi con la precarietà. C'è una storia, nascosta da qualche parte nelle crepe del passato, che la ossessiona da sempre. Nell'estate del 1959 il piccolo villaggio minerario di Silvertjarn è stato teatro di un evento inspiegabile: i suoi novecento abitanti sono svaniti nel nulla, lasciandosi dietro soltanto una città fantasma, il cadavere di una donna lapidata nella piazza del paese e una neonata di pochi giorni abbandonata sui banchi della scuola. Nonostante le indagini e le perlustrazioni a tappeto della polizia, non si è mai trovata alcuna traccia dei residenti, né alcun indizio sul loro destino. La nonna di Alice viveva nel villaggio, e tutta la sua famiglia è scomparsa insieme a loro. Le domande senza risposta sono troppe, e Alice decide di realizzare un documentario per ricostruire ciò che è realmente accaduto. Insieme a una troupe di amici si reca sul posto per i primi sopralluoghi: ben presto capiranno che non sarà così facile tornare indietro.

The Lost Village claims to follow a film crew making a documentary about a village where all 900 of its inhabitants mysteriously disappeared in the 1950s so I felt a little tricked considering I was looking forward to the doc aspect yet no one ever actually did any filming in the book.
