Holy cow what a propulsive volume. The amazing thing about Akane-Banashi is that by making the story about something as relatively low stakes as an artistic performance the possibility of our heroes losing their battles is always fully on the table. I can't imagine how this would have read as weekly installments. As a single volume, it swept me right along through the strain (view spoiler) [and eventual triumph (hide spoiler)] of Maikeru's performance, and brought me near to tears.

Maikeru's Shin'uchi Promotion Test is emotional, dramatic and simply incredible and the best manga arc in a long time and in my opinion, Akanebanashi is the best Shonen Jump manga right now. Perfect volume 100/10
