A diciotto anni, Susanna Kaysen, dopo una sommaria visita di un medico che non aveva mai visto prima, viene spedita in una clinica psichiatrica. Passerà i due anni successivi nel reparto adolescenti del McLean Hospital, noto per i suoi pazienti famosi (Sylvia Plath, James Taylor e Ray Charles, tra gli altri) e per i metodi all'avanguardia.
La sua storia, raccontata con tono distaccato, a volte comicamente beffardo e sempre autoironico, riesce nell'impresa di trasmetterci il senso di un'esperienza che in genere può essere compresa soltanto da chi l'ha vissuta per davvero.
Da questo libro è stato tratto il film Ragazze interrotte con Winona Ryder e Angelina Jolie per la regia di James Mangold.

I can always tell I really, truly liked a book, really felt it and enjoyed it, when one of two things occurs: 1) I spontaneously tear up at the ending. 2) I immediately need to own a hardcover copy but hardcovers are hard to find so I do the unthinkable: Check eBay. 3 stars! While I did enjoy this book, I don’t feel I loved it as much as I expected to. CW: borderline personality disorder, suicide I am not much of a non-fiction reader, so the format and storytelling methods of memoirs and such are unfamiliar to me, and I typically do not enjoy them as much as fict Leggi tutto
