E nel 2093, in un mondo lacerato da pestilenze e governato da un regime totalitario, la nipote di un potente scienziato cerca di affrontare la vita senza di lui e di risolvere il mistero delle sparizioni di suo marito. Queste tre parti sono unite in una sinfonia avvincente, con note e temi ricorrenti che si approfondiscono e si arricchiscono a vicenda: una residenza a Washington Square Park nel Greenwich Village; malattie e cure dal terribile costo; ricchezza e squallore; il debole e il forte; la razza; la definizione di famiglia e di nazionalità; la pericolosa giustizia dei potenti e dei rivoluzionari; il desiderio di trovare il proprio posto in un paradiso terrestre e la graduale consapevolezza che non può esistere. Ciò che unisce non solo i personaggi, ma anche queste Americhe, è il loro venire a patti con quello che ci rende umani: la paura, l'amore, la vergogna, il bisogno, la solitudine. Verso il paradiso è un meraviglioso esempio di tecnica letteraria, ma soprattutto è un'opera geniale che affronta le nostre emozioni. Hanya Yanagihara scrive un romanzo sul desiderio di proteggere coloro che amiamo - partner, amanti, figli, amici, famiglia e persino i nostri concittadini - e sul dolore che ne deriva quando non possiamo farlo.

I really liked this book because I love Yanagihara's prose style. She takes as much time as she wants to unravel even the smallest details. It's like, yes, girl go ahead!
