Abbas ha nove anni ed è iraniano: i suoi genitori, per evitare che sia reclutato dall'esercito tra i bambini-soldato, decidono che lui e la mamma partiranno per Istanbul e poi per Londra. All'aeroporto, però, la mamma viene fermata. Abbas dovrà partire da solo. Inizia così l'avventura di un bambino che deve diventare adulto in poche ore di volo: arrivato a Istanbul, Abbas dovrà trovare un albergo, raggiungere l'ambasciata, ottenere il visto. E aspettare. Tutto ciò senza conoscere la lingua e avendo con sé pochissimo denaro. Ma Abbas è sveglio e coraggioso, e soprattutto è bravo a farsi nuovi amici: tra tassisti, proprietari di alberghi, gioiellieri e consoli di ambasciate, il bambino riesce a costruirsi una sorta di famiglia e a cavarsela. Fino alla partenza per Londra... Un libro che fa stare bene, che infonde coraggio ed energia positiva. Una storia vera che lascia senza parole.

OMG, this was an awesome book This was one of the most moving books I have ever read. I was drawn in right from the beginning. I don't know how this child survived. I have a granddaughter his age and knowing how much a child she is makes me ache for this "Little Man" and what he had to endure. He los Leggi tutto
I couldn't put this book down. What an incredibly resilient young person Abbas was! Can't wait to read the second book.
Read it with my 7th grader for an ELA assignment. It’s a great (true) story! Highly recommend for kids that age.
Excellent narration by the author. Can’t say enough how much I enjoyed this even though it is a difficult story to hear.
