La telefonata arriva un venerdì sera. Sulla costa dell'Essex, poco oltre Marsea Island, vicino a un luogo chiamato Blackwaters, è stato ritrovato un corpo in avanzato stato di decomposizione e la polizia locale chiede la consulenza dell'antropologo forense David Hunter per il recupero e l'identificazione dei resti. L'ipotesi - o la speranza? - è che si tratti di Leo Villiers, trentun anni, figlio di una delle famiglie più in vista della comunità: è sparito da settimane e la pressione per risolvere il caso è molta. Le indagini hanno infatti portato alla luce la sua relazione con Emma Derby, una donna sposata e a sua volta scomparsa. Forse lui l'ha uccisa per poi togliersi la vita. Forse. Perché niente è mai così semplice. Hunter infatti dubita della vera identità dei resti: mani e piedi non ci sono, il volto è irriconoscibile, nessuna certezza. Poi dalle acque iniziano ad emergere orribili segreti e Hunter sprofonda sempre più in una palude di risentimenti famigliari, bugie e inganni da cui non riesce a uscire.

Actual rating: 4.25 🌟 Another great thriller by this author. Beckett has a way of writing that just pulls you in and lets you fly through the pages. All the characters, as well as the plot development, seemed believable. The fact that some interesting biological facts are build into the story adds so Leggi tutto

Тут чимало випадковостей, які рухають сюжет, і, звісно ж, у центрі усіх - Девід Гантер. Але на те він і головний герой, най буде) У цій частині вагоме місце у тексті віддано стихії води – атмосферно. 4⭐️ Після «провальної» четвертої книги, у пʼятій Бекетт взявся за голову і написав майже все ідеально. Став схожим на себе.
