Mentre cammina per le strade di Parigi, Alex, una giovane donna di trent'anni, viene seguita da uno sconosciuto che, dopo averla aggredita e picchiata selvaggiamente, la carica su un anonimo furgone bianco facendo perdere le sue tracce. Portata in un magazzino abbandonato, la ragazza viene rinchiusa in una gabbia di legno appesa a due metri da terra. Per lei non c'è via d'uscita: non sa dove si trova, né cosa voglia quell'uomo che non le rivolge mai la parola. I giorni passano tra mille sofferenze. Piegata dentro quella gabbia che non le permette il minimo movimento, in quel luogo umido e buio, Alex sente che il suo destino è segnato e che nessuno verrà a soccorrerla. Ha una sola certezza: il suo rapitore vuole vederla morire. C'è però un testimone che ha assistito al rapimento, e grazie alla sua segnalazione il commissario Camille Verhoeven, con un tragico trascorso personale e modi formidabili, inizia a indagare sulla vicenda. Chi è il sequestratore? Perché ha architettato tutto questo? E, soprattutto, chi è davvero Alex? Quando l'aguzzino viene finalmente identificato e la polizia fa irruzione nel luogo del sequestro, la gabbia è vuota. La ragazza si è volatilizzata. Da questo momento l'enigma di Alex e del suo passato terrà il lettore con il fiato sospeso fino alla fine, trascinandolo in un vortice diabolico che non lascia scampo.

Shocking. Gruesome. Complex. Compelling. I did not like the beginning because I am squeamish. It was ugly. Raw and very Frightening.
