Gli autori dei quindici racconti selezionati da Tenzin Dickie scrivono in tibetano, inglese, cinese. Un panorama variegato di narrazioni che trasmettono quasi all'unisono l'identità di un popolo, malgrado le contraddizioni tra tradizione e modernità, i difficili equilibri tra mondi diversi, le incertezze di esistenze trascorse tra esilio, costrizioni, affetti, abbandoni, inurbamento. Come sottolinea la curatrice nell'introduzione, benché la letteratura tibetana abbia una storia millenaria, essa è rimasta per lo più orale e legata a tematiche religiose fino agli anni Ottanta, quando a Lhasa fu pubblicata la prima rivista in lingua tibetana. Da allora, tramite i racconti divenuti una delle più importanti forme letterarie tibetane, il Tibet può parlare di sé liberamente, esprimersi con evidente autenticità.

There are some really strong pieces, and some less so. But on the whole it is definitely a fascinating read. What is best is that it skips and jumps through, past, and with the here and now, giving us looks into 'traditional culture' as well as 'modernity', refusing and refuting simplistic divisions Leggi tutto
My friend was the editor of this book, contributed one of the stories, and translated some of the others, so I'm not exactly an unbiased reviewer, but regardless this book is a wonderful introduction for westerners to Tibetan literature. Go Dickyi!
