A bordo della sua moto rossa, Samson O'Brien ritorna dopo dieci anni di lontananza a Bruncliffe, un'accozzaglia di fabbricati bassi cinta su tre lati dalle ripide colline delle Yorkshire Dales. È nei guai, come ogni agente di polizia sospeso dal servizio e in attesa del giudizio. Sa bene anche che a Bruncliffe non festeggeranno di certo il suo arrivo, considerati i suoi trascorsi in paese. Tuttavia, cosa gli resta se non il ritorno a casa, dove reinventarsi magari come investigatore privato? A Bruncliffe anche Delilah Metcalfe non se la passa tanto bene. La Dales Dating Agency, DDA per i clienti desiderosi d'avventura, l'agenzia di appuntamenti on line che ha fondato da esperta informatica, è sull'orlo della bancarotta. Affittare il piano terra della DDA è perciò l'unica soluzione per salvare il salvabile. Quando però scopre che l'affittuario è Samson O'Brien, i cui nefasti trascorsi a Bruncliffe la riguardano profondamente, e quando soprattutto scorge il nome della società destinata a occupare il piano terra, la Dale Detective Agency, Delilah va su tutte le furie. Va bene tutto, ma non un'agenzia con le stesse iniziali della sua! Le cose, tuttavia, prendono una piega inaspettata dopo il presunto suicidio di un cliente della Dales Dating Agency, Richard Hargreaves, travolto da un treno, e dopo il rinvenimento, in fondo a Gordale Scar, del cadavere di un altro cliente della DDA, Martin Foster. A Delilah non resta infatti che mettere da parte il risentimento nei confronti di Samson e chiedere il suo aiuto per dare un volto all'assassino.

I really enjoyed this murder/mystery book. It wasn’t full of tension or buckets of blood and gore but, it was gentle and had me thinking a lot of the characters were guilty. This cozy mystery, first in a series that count three up to now, has a lot of potential = a team of one real detective and one amateur-sleuth who owns a dating company, with lots of dry humour. J’ai découvert ce livre chez France Loisirs lors de mon achat trimestriel. Il trônait entre les romans des séries Agatha Raisin et Mary Lester. 3,8⭐️ Le meilleur cosy mystery que j’ai lu jusqu’ici ! Bon j’ai pas lu beaucoup de cosy mystery donc je suis pas extrêmement bien placé pour dire ça. Pourtant ce roman se dénote du genre. Cette première incursion à Bruncliffe s'est donc conclue sur une note réjouissante ! D'un côté, le mystérieux Samson O'Brien débarque à moto pour ouvrir une agence de détective privé. 4,5/5 J’ai clairement rien pigé au début, quid d’introduire un peu mieux tes personnages Julia ??? 🤷🏻♀️ En revanche, la suite m’a 100% convaincue.
