Sinossi
È il 1906 e a New York le strade brulicano di uomini di malaffare, pronti a ricorrere alle maniere forti per risolvere il più piccolo dei problemi. Molti di loro si sono riuniti in un’organizzazione criminale che si fa chiamare Mano Nera e che detta legge a suon di rapimenti, estorsioni, incendi. E di omicidi ogni volta più feroci ai danni di persone in vista, politici e ricchi imprenditori.
Per contrastare questo gruppo di spietati gangster a cui piace ricorrere a vecchi trucchi aggiungendo dinamite, una coalizione di vittime della Mano Nera ingaggia l’agenzia Van Dorn per proteggere i propri affari, la reputazione e non ultime le famiglie. Ovviamente, nella «squadra Mano Nera» non poteva mancare Isaac Bell, giovane investigatore che si sta facendo una discreta fama grazie al suo grande intuito. A conferma di ciò, setacciando la città alla ricerca di indizi Bell riconosce un volto famigliare…
Mentre gli obiettivi della Mano Nera si fanno sempre più ambiziosi e la posta in gioco sempre più alta, Bell deve scavare nel passato, capire chi è il tessitore di quella rete di intrighi e assicurarlo alla giustizia prima che sia troppo tardi.

Clive Cussler hits it out of the park once again! A thrilling plot, crisp writing, likable heroes, and despicable villains!
I see a historical suspense book like this as a sort of palate cleanser between more substantial courses of reading, and in that role The Gangster serves very nicely. Loved it, there just something about Clive Cussler's books that once I start to read them inforget everything else, they just pull me into them.
I like the Isaac Bell series. Things were different then, well except murder that is.
One of the better books in the Isaac Bell series, this time Isaac battles the black hand, trying to keep it from becoming a national crime syndicate, while at the same time protecting President Theodore Roosevelt from an assassination attempt.
Typical Clive Cussler novel. This one was a little less flowery than normal so was happy to give it the extra star!
Another great Isaac Bell story. I always love the history involved and definitely learn a lot about turn of the century life.
