Bocchan: così si chiama in giapponese questo celebre romanzo di Natsume Soseki, che costituisce forse l'opera più letta nel Giappone moderno. Bocchan è il nome affettuoso che si usa in Giappone per rivolgersi a un bambino maschio. Le domestiche, ad esempio, chiamano bocchan il bambino della famiglia presso cui prestano servizio. È un nome che potrebbe corrispondere al nostro "signorino", se non fosse molto meno formale e deferente e, soprattutto, se non assumesse una sfumatura negativa quando, usato ironicamente, prende il significato di ragazzino immaturo, irresponsabile, ingenuo. Il personaggio, che è all'opera in queste pagine, è inguaribilmente bocchan, un "signorino" nella duplice accezione del termine giapponese. In età infantile, disprezzato dal padre e ignorato dalla madre che gli preferisce il fratello più grande, viene chiamato affettuosamente bocchan da Kiyo, la domestica di casa, una donna all'antica che considera il legame con lui alla stregua di quello che univa servitore e padrone in epoca feudale. Diventato adulto, resta un "signorino" dall'aria svagata, dalla mancanza di rispetto per l'etichetta, dalla disarmante sincerità. Insegna matematica ad allievi chiassosi e zucconi e in mezzo a insegnanti che non sono altro che un branco di caproni arroganti, disonesti e ipocriti. Dovrebbe rassegnarsi e capire che l'ipocrisia sta diventando norma nel Giappone moderno, ma non cessa un solo istante di difendere con impulsività e commovente ingenuità l'antico senso dell'onore.

Es una lectura ligera pero llena de chispa que satiriza la experiencia de un joven profesor dando clase en una pequeña ciudad de provincias. Me lo he pasado genial. Super recomendado!!!
